President Sarkozy is hoping that a combination of a swift vote in the senate and the forthcoming All Saints' Day national holiday will douse passions more effectively than the water cannons of his riot police.

Le journal pointe le soutien de l'opinon publique française luttant pour la justice sociale dans un pays fer de lance de cette cause. Il appelle ses lecteurs, peut-être pas encore à la grève mais à réfléchir à leurs propres acquis sociaux mis à mal ou disparus:
As the basic provisions of the welfare state are being rolled back all over Europe, in the name of protecting triple-A credit ratings, a cause is being fought in France which we in Britain would do well to watch carefully.
THE GUARDIAN termine sur ces mots :

___ Les très nombreux commentaires à cet Edito qui n'est pas passé inaperçu valent le détour. En voici deux qui donnent le moral, extraits. Prenez-en de la graine messieurs les anglais :

- I've nothing but respect for the brave French demonstrators. The contrast between them and their spineless cap-doffing neighbours accross the channel is an embarrassment.
(les anglais comparés à des "invertébrés" serviles rendent honteux ce lecteur.)

- In this strange world where the banksters led us to the brink of financial armageddon leading to the Tories telling us we need more marketisation to cope with the mess....
The French people provide the only beacon of hope. I don't much care about their pension reforms .... it's their willingness to stand up and fight for justice that is so impressive.
The civil disobedience of the 80s over Poll Tax proves that deep inside, the Brits have it too. To the general public ... get off your fucking knees before it's too late.
